Ready, Set, Tablets!

One of the goals of the project is to map the poultry trade network across the country and characterize the markets they pass through, as this can influence how avian influenza viruses evolve and spread. To achieve this, we developed questionnaires to track where poultry comes from and goes, and to describe market characteristics. This week was intense, as we worked closely with our team of interviewers—Sovan, Cheata, Kimlong, Try, Kea, and Vong—who have experience with market visits. They provided valuable feedback to help refine our paper-based questionnaires. Questionnaires may seem straightforward, but they require a lot of work to ensure we get the right answers, and sometimes it takes rephrasing questions to get people to open up. We then practiced using tablets, starting with a test run at Chbar Ampov market in Phnom Penh. After several feedback sessions, it looks like our survey is ready to be rolled out to other markets. Well done, everyone!
