Our Team

Claire Guinat

As the Principal Investigator (PI), Claire is a research fellow at INRAE and specializes in veterinary epidemiology and animal infectious disease research. Her expertise lies in integrating epidemiological and genetic data to understand transmission and emergence factors.

Erik Karlsson

Erik is the Head of the Virology Unit at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) and the Director of the National Influenza Center and WHO H5 Reference Laboratory. His experience and research focus on advancing Early Warning systems for endemic and emerging viruses through improved surveillance and detection at high-risk human-animal-environmental interfaces.

Sara Zufan

Sara is a postdoctoral researcher whose work aims to advance phylodynamic models to identify risk factors for viral reassortment and other evolutionary events. She has expertise in viral surveillance of high-consequence pathogens, with a focus on improving early detection and response to emerging threats.

Bastien Malinge

Bastien is a veterinary PhD student working on integrated surveillance strategies for avian influenza viruses in live bird markets in Cambodia. He is interested in learning epidemiology, data analysis, disease modeling and integrated surveillance strategies.

Malen Chan

Malen is a senior research technician in the Epidemiology and Public Health Unit at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC). She has a background in epidemiology. She has expertise that extends to coordinating field initiatives like avian influenza and rabies and managing data at Rabies Prevention Centers.

Ren Theary

Dr. Theary oversees the virology, bacteriology, and parasitology laboratories at the National Animal Health and Production Research Institute (NAHPRI), part of Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). She has extensive experience in investigating avian influenza outbreaks.

Mathilde Paul

Mathilde is a senior lecturer in epidemiology and avian population medicine at Toulouse Vetschool (ENVT). Her key research interests focus on how farmers’ behaviours and anthropogenic factors can shape the spatio-temporal distribution of infectious diseases such as avian influenza.

Veasna Duong

Veasna was overseeing the Virology unit at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC). He has experience in research and surveillance activities of arboviruses and emerging zoonotic viruses focusing on diagnosis, molecular epidemiology, understanding the host-pathogen interaction including study of pathogenicity and transmission dynamic.
