We are delighted to welcome Sara Zufan as a postdoctoral researcher on the TrackFLU project. With a background in pathogen genomics, Sara brings extensive experience in sequencing and global health collaborations from her previous work with the US National Institutes of Health and US Department of Agriculture.
Within TrackFLU, she will coordinate the logistics of the longitudinal study in Cambodian live-bird markets, building on the cross-sectional work led by Bastien Malinge. She will also lead the phylodynamic analyses of avian influenza virus sequences generated during the study to better understand viral evolution and transmission dynamics within complex poultry trading networks.
After a short stay in Toulouse to meet the EPIDESA team, Sara has now moved to Cambodia, where she is supporting field logistics and data collection. Like Bastien, she began with an introduction tour: visiting the Orussey live-bird market, meeting the IPC team, and immersing herself in Khmer culture.
We’re thrilled to have her on board and look forward to the upcoming fieldwork phase!
